Carrie,

"That's why the first thing I tell women in my seminars is this: if you want to be truly healthy, peace-filled and happy- the first thing you MUST do is quit reading fashion and beauty magazines-and start listening to your inner voice."

Beautifully said! Something that needs to be expressed in as many ways as possible. Thank you!

Paym, oh good, you like a juicy rant too.

And as for the cake, I think of all the times I crammed a piece down fast, whether to destroy evidence or before I noticed I was really eating it! Now I have my cake and eat it, too - but I'll enjoy every bite and extra inch of frosting (my favorite part) and this way there is MUCH less of it on my hips than in days past!

Thanks for the share,

Mary, your post brought giggles - as I recall vivid mental pictures of myself in similar dire straights! You are too funny.

Hi Lani-
Man oh man, some of these are just outright bizarre indeed!
My take on alot of the hype that shows up in our press is this:
we live in a 24-7 news world and in order to sell sell sell new things have to be printed all the time- right, factual, correct --or not.

That's where most of our so called fads and trends come from: someone alone in a newsroom or in front of their computer creating something with a twist-designed merely to get us to jump.

That's why the first thing I tell women in my seminars is this: if you want to be truly healthy, peace-filled and happy- the first thing you MUST do is quit reading fashion and beauty magazines-and start listening to your inner voice.

Thanks for helping to steer women in the right direction- and to saner lives!
Your Friend and Fan-

Hi Lani,
I agreed with just about everything you said, but using a smaller plate does work for me. My daughter and I had a good talk at Christmas and this was one of the suggestions she mentioned. I use a smaller plate and when I am done I put it in the sink so I am not tempted to eat more.
Thanks so much for your interest, I really do appreciate getting to share all of your wisdom.

I fully agree with you Lani that the article was full of holes and lack of support/authentication. Sounds like the author just had to meet a deadline to be blunt. Some of these I remember my mother telling me to do, and again, without justification (like you, whether I sit and eat or eat while doing other things due to time constraints has little bearing on how much food goes in my mouth, although I do feel I should sometimes take a piece of cake and just plaster it on my hips, as that's where it will end up anyway).

Love these articles - and you did not rant, I would've destroyed the myths and overall c**p of this article in a not so gentle tone! This is the type of c**p that gave food the power over ME, instead of an interdependent relationship that I need. Oops, ranting now! :)

Thanks, Lani, for removing so much of the guilt! I've never been good at sitting, staring at the wall, for 20 minutes while I eat in an effort to stay "conscious".
